I wanted to take a brief moment of your time to tell you how much the Playground Committee of the St. Christopher School in Nashua appreciates Joel StPierre.
St. Chris feels so fortunate that we got Joel as our Rep on our playground project.  From the initial steps of getting estimates, thru design, and to the completion of the project, Joel was receptive, professional, and accessible any time we needed his expertise.
Joel shined the most though on build weekend.  There were numerous obstacles preventing us from having a smooth build.  We were promised by our excavation contractor access to the site on the day before the build.  Joel was going to be there to mark the holes and I had a crew on standby to dig that day.  The night before, the excavator said he was not done, so I canceled the digging.  I was panicking.  When Joel showed up and I explained, he calmly told me we would work it out.  Well an hour later the excavator was done and we had no digging crew.  Joel just said, go get a digging machine and we will do it ourselves.  To make a long story shorter, as Joel stated, it was the hardest (and rockiest) ground he had ever seen.  We needed a huge backhoe with a hydraulic auger to come in on build day to dig the holes that then had to be hand dug again because of the rocks.  Joel never even flinched.  We probably didn't even start assembling till 11:00 am.  I knew the project was going to take 6-8 hours and all the volunteers had already been there since 8:00 am waiting to get started.  Joel was great in using the down time keep everyone engaged.  I was very aware of the clock and kept asking Joel if we were going to run out of time.  He just assured me it was all going well.  This professional, reassuring guidance kept me and my group on task and goal oriented.  It was a very long ,very tough day.  Joel got their at 7:00 am and did not leave until the last piece of paper was thrown away at dark (8:00 pm).
The projects success was only because we had Joel, it is that simple.  We will by word of mouth strongly recommend your company because of our experience with him.

As a recommendation from the Mack Park Neighborhood Association, I would like to share with you the wonderful and professional experience we had with O'Brien & Sons, and their representative, Andy Berger.

This past weekend, with the help of many volunteers possessing neither experience or knowledge in the field, we assembled Mack Park's new playground. With Andy's supervision and guidance, our volunteer crew performed like seasoned professionals. Despite Saturday's heavy rain and the resulting discomfort and difficulties created by the inclement weather, the project was 75% complete by the day's end.

Everyone who participated was truly impressed with Andy's organization skills, and his ability to instruct and communicate.

Harrington Elementary needed a totally new playground to replace a new one. O'Brien and Sons supported us from the beginning of our project. From 2001 through 2003, I was the president of Friends of Robbins Farm Park, a nonprofit community organization dedicated to improving and preserving a beautiful 11 acre park here in Arlington, Massachusetts. We worked for two years to raise money and get town funds to rebuild the playground, and finally were able to break ground in the spring of 2003. As part of the planning process, our group interviewed several playground equipment companies, evaluating them on their products, their professionalism, and their experience in working with community groups.

We chose M.E. O'Brien and Sons to help design and manage the project, based primarily on how impressed we were with John Tayler. And, as we hoped, he and his team were extremely helpful during the design phase of the project - steering us toward sensible solutions while still giving us the freedom to create a playground that reflected the needs and desires of our community.

The playground portion of the Robbins Farm project could easily have cost $400,000 had we not decided to do it as a "community build," where neightborhood volunteers actually do the work of installing the equipment. With John's guidance and support, we were able to save the town of Arlington $90,000. He helped us manage over 200 volunteers over a 4 day period. He was there early every day, organizing the equipment, and stayed late every night getting ready for the next day. He showed our teams how to do literally everything on the site. His Patience and understanding as he showed our inexperienced neighbors the ropes really set the tone for an amazingly successful project.

It’s been a year since we constructed Paxton’s first class playground. This was three years after the start of our playground fund raising efforts and four years after your first visit to our town. In a nutshell, you have spent so much time in our community you have become an honorary “Paxtonite”. You helped our community in so many ways.

When we started this endeavor all we had was an idea. We wanted to build a first class playground that would last generations and bring joy to children in town. I can’t tell you how daunting the task seemed to a bunch of town volunteers.

At our first meeting with you, you explained in great detail about community built playgrounds and the different types of playground equipment on the market. You didn’t just come to our town to make a sale; you came with an interest in our town and explained how you could help us realize our dream. You gave us great insight on how we should organize our group, how to handle fund raising efforts and how to get the community involved. Even though our group always met on weekday evenings, you always made yourself available to meet with us. To say that we needed you most of the time would be an understatement.

You were instrumental in our fund raising efforts. We didn’t start our fund raising efforts until a year after our first meeting. I think most vendors would have given up on us after 6 months, seeing that we were no closer to raising the money needed to purchase the playground. You gave us many great ideas for our fund raising efforts. You also gave us that push and the belief that we could raise the money. Because of this motivation we surpassed our fund raising goal by 1/3.

The best part of the project was the design phase. We had ten people on our committee and we had 10 different ideas on how the playground should be designed. You were excellent in guiding us as to what works in playground and what doesn’t. You presented us numerous designs and options. You showed great patience with us until we all agreed on a final design.

Building the playground was a great highlight of the project. I know my co-chair and I were nervous about the aggressive time-line to order the playground and organize the volunteers. We were getting close to the winter months and we really wanted to get this before the spring. You kept telling us, “Don’t worry it will all work out”. You were right as usual. The equipment was delivered on time and the town came out and showed great support. The town folks had a great time installing the playground and many commented on the high level of organization involved. You did an excellent job getting us motivated and organized.

I can’t thank you enough for making this experience one of the highlights of my life.
